Hello all,

Succulent 2025-12-14-2000 is now available. This is a big patch in that it combines yesterday's changes but removes Charms from the game. Without Charms, the player continues to be pressured into continuing to optimize their equipment, and continues to prioritize equipped gear as the main way to progress. In addition, requiring inventory space to use Charms is something that isn't necessarily fun in the day-to-day play of the game. Every inventory slot became precious and 99% of players would choose to fill their inventory with charms rather than leaving it empty. Now that Charms are no longer in the game, your inventory space is free to be used in other more calm ways, just like in Diablo II Classic. The full patch notes and new screenshots can be found below. As always, you can download Succulent from its Main Page or the Resource Manager. I've also removed the "Known Issue" that I mentioned yesterday. I still believe it's an existing bug but I will try to do a stress test of the engine in Vanilla 1.09b at a later date.

Patch Notes
  • Charms are no longer in the game.
  • The Cube has been reverted back to the Vanilla size.
  • Characters no longer start with the Cube.
  • Tweaked Griswold and The Smith's Treasure Classes.
  • The Add Socket To Rare Item recipe has been adjusted to only require 4 Perfect Gems of any type given the reduction in the size of the Cube. This should still allow a player to add a socket to the biggest items in the game (2x4).
  • The Prismatic Amulet recipe has been re-enabled since it no longer conflicts with the Add Socket recipe.
  • The Magic Item re-rolling recipe has been modified to require a Thawing Potion as well. This prevents confusion with the new add socket recipe.

Yep, there's just no way to balance charms no matter how hard you try. On paper they sound cool, but it just means an automatic power buff by sacrificing the whole point of your inventory and let's be real, everyone is going to fill it with as many charms as they can. So you either have to make charms so weak having that many won't be overpowered, or change them to a regular gear slot so they can be cool. Then they had to balance the game around that, so everything is made more difficult to compensate for you filling it up with charms. I think it's cool to just keep the unique ones (hellfire torch, anni, gheed's) and get rid of the rest.
