Hello all,

Today I've released a new version of Singling, 2025-12-07-2000, which is included in the new Cactus bundle. Below are the patch notes included in this new release:

General
  • Dropped 1.08 Support

The 1.08 patch contains a Dark Pattern regarding Deadly Crafts which introduced time based crafting (and rune freshness) into the game. This is the only patch that does this and I'm not too fond of this type of game design. 1.07 doesn't include this type of pattern and overall includes more possibilities than 1.08. For this reason, I'm dropping support. Please use 1.07 or 1.09 if anything. You are still free to play 1.08 if you want via Cactus, but no official Singling support will continue to be provided.
  • Removed redundant "Stock" files. Singling has been part of Cactus for many years and thus these same stock files can be copied from Cactus' Platforms directory.
Bug Fixes
  • Backported Succulent's Skip Introduction Cinematics Improvements into 1.07 and 1.09b. This is the improvement where the cinematics are skipped but you can still see the initial Splash Screen (the one where you see the Druid and Assassin walking into Harrogath). Before, this initial screen would be skipped in these two patches. The other patches Singling supports (1.00, 1.05b, and 1.10) did not have this issue.
Thus, the new supported versions looks as follows:

Supported Versions

  • 1.00 (Classic Launch Version)
  • 1.05b (Polished Original Classic)
  • 1.07 (Expansion Launch Version | CD Exclusive)
    • This was only playable on Single Player after installing from the CD. Connecting to Battle.net on Launch Day would have updated you immediately to 1.08.
  • 1.09b (Polished Original Expansion)
  • 1.10 (Modern Expansion | Final Blizzard North Patch)

As always you can get Cactus at the usual locations: Main Page / Resource Manager

Nice bro. I just updated all my Singling-compatible platforms with the fresh files. Confirmed that I see the splash screen in 07 & 09b. Nice work as always.

Thanks for posting that @thrasher_565. That is good to know. When thinking about staleness vs the need to craft during specific days of the month, given that staleness is only about guaranteeing the number of minimum affixes (vs preventing the craft from being generated in the first place), I would consider the specific days of the month requirement to be more of a hard pass. The staleness part is annoying and I’m not 100% happy with it but I suppose being allowed to generate the craft with a minimum of three affixes (and having a cap of 20% chance for a forth affix) is not the worst. I also think something that helps mitigate this in 1.07 is that you can use any chipped gem to craft, and of course all of the other possibilities 1.07 has for crafted items that can’t happen in other versions, like magic affixes on crafts, multiple sockets on crafts, imbued crafts. So there are way more crafts I can make with a lower amount of equipment. So 1.07 still seems to be ok and the goat ;).

ya also 1.07 deadly crafts only get 1% deadly strike cb so on...1% fcr 1.08 was fixed. i found your other post of dark parents and making it a fomo but i think 1.08 didn't last long and 1.09 removed it.

That’s correct, 1.08 lasted around 52 days.

Regarding Deadly Crafts, I thought only 1.08 had these? I don’t believe these recipes were enabled in 1.07 but I could be wrong. Also if they are enabled in 1.07, I’m guessing there is still a day of the month requirement? I’ll need to double check and re-think this cause if this is true then my reasoning for removing 1.08 support from singling is weakened.

Alright, I looked at the CubeMain.txt for 1.07 (in d2exp.mpq) and also the CubeMain.txt for 1.08 in 1.08's Patch_D2.mpq, and I can confirm that all 4 Deadly Crafts are disabled in 1.07 and are enabled in 1.08. I also do see that 1.07-1.09 all have the "start day", "stop day", and "day of week" columns, but only 1.08 is using them for those four recipes. I also looked at 1.10's file to see how it looks and those columns have been removed. After thinking about this a little, I've decided to re-add 1.08 support. I guess given 1.07-1.08 still have this rune freshness thing, which from reading about it, it kinda looks like a ilvl erasure bug, idk if losing the iLvl of the rune was intentional (I think that was fixed in 1.09?). The rune freshness as I mentioned before isn't my most critical opposition. But I suppose given it's just the deadly crafts recipes, maybe we can consider Deadly Crafts as some sort of optional content that you'll have available to you in 1.08, and if you happen to find a rune during those days you can pursue that. IIRC I also remember people talking about just setting the system clock to the specific day you want lol. I'll let you decide that. But stay tune for another Singling update soon. I'll also include the new intro cinematic improvement from Succulent in there as well for 1.08.

I've released a new bundle that includes 1.08 support for Singling again, and also contains the improved skip intro cinematic fix for 1.08 as well.

oh i was thinking of blood crafts and caster crafts 1%. ya looks like deadly only 1.08. but getting the runes are alot of work even if its a bad mechanic it a reword for doing it. i think you can change the clock but i don't really no. fun fact d3 had something like this on auction house were you could add an item to it and change your clock to do something with it don't quite remember. ya we just need to make clear what can and cant do to runes in 1.07 and 1.08. dose this mane play ip mp and having crafting gear on a mule maybe. runes are vary rare in 1.07...
