Glad you are finding Cactus useful and are having fun. What patches are you playing? Stay safe in the real world and in Sanctuary!
My favourite is the Classic patch prior to LoD. The game is a lot closer to D1 than in later years. I always thought of 1.06b as the golden age, but as I discovered, 1.05b is the patch I wanted to be playing on as you described! So this is the patch I've put the most time into on Cactus. How I wish some of the more recent shaders like D2DX work on this one, as I typically like playing full screen on my 1440p monitor, but cnc-ddraw is good enough at least!
I would probably also say I liked 1.09 a lot and it would be the next one I play (even though there are some aspects of LoD that I think somewhat spoil the D2 experience). This patch is the most nostalgic one for me, as I played that patch a lot as a kid.

Definitely. 1.05b and 1.09b for lyfe. Although I’ll keep a special place in my heart for 1.10 cause that’s the patch I started D2 in Ladder 1 2003.
