I want to say thank you for making Cactus. I had a lot of good memories playing D2 back in the day, and I'm glad I can finally play it with modern hardware without problems in Lutris. I am now playing Succulent and I am having a blast. I had always felt when LoD was released, in my personal opinion, that Rune-words took the fun out of the game. Now I can't stop playing.😁

Haha I’m glad you are having fun with Cactus and Succulent. How has your experience been like with Succulent given I removed all the runewords? How are all the other items feeling like?

Also Cactus seems to be working well for you using Wine (through Lutris)? I’m assuming you are on Linux?

Correct. I have CachyOS installed as my OS, which is based on Arch Linux. The only bugs I have noticed with Cactus are visual artifacts. But other than it does not hide to the taskbar (may just be a Linux problem), everything works in function. I read the Wine install instructions in your documentation, which I thank you again for. I opted to use Lutris only to keep all my wine software in one launcher.

Playing Succulent feels like a dream come true. I hinted in my introduction that I don't have positive feelings towards Runewords. I grew up playing Diablo and Diablo II. I have felt that runes should have been socket items only, like gems and jewels. Runewords became a permanent best in slot that took the randomness out of the gear process. I like feeling that the changes you have made to runes were needed to retain the spirit of what made Diablo II a timeless game. Other things I enjoy about the mod is how grand charms can drop as rares, as well as the needed fixes to rare items. I want to do more runs in the game before I can accurately judge the other changed to items, but I will say that I am enjoying the feeling of using them so far.

I did notice something, but I don't know if I am going crazy or not. I am wondering if movement speed are the same, or do they have faster run/walk by default? Just something I cant place a finger on regarding Succulent.

No changes have been made to FRW. It’s using the normal rates of 1.09b ;).

I’ve been recently thinking if there are any additional changes I want to make to the mod since when I released the mod last year, I was pretty satisfied with all the changes… it’s been one year now so I have new ideas haha.

😅 Glad to know I am starting to go crazy a little. Well, I know that this will now be my prefer way of playing LoD. If you do add to the mod in the future, I am looking forward to the changes. As I get more familiar with this version of the mod, I will list down what I feel about the items and such. 😄

I agree with your take regarding Runewords changing the game too much in 1.10 and beyond. I primarily play 1.09 which does have several Runewords but they are generally pretty weak compared to the elite uniques and other sought after items. Besides my Melody staff which I use to boost Energy Shield on my MF Sorc, I don't really use any Runewords on my characters. I also love Succulent and it's probably my favorite Diablo 2 mod! By the way, if you get any cool Rare charms or other interesting items, please post them here!: [Succulent] Drops Thread
